Public Speaking

The public speaking program is a hallmark of an FCDS education. The program provides an opportunity for boys to develop many public speaking skills, including: an appreciation for poetry; memorization and interpretation; self-confidence with an audience; consideration of topics of interest; researching and organizing an argument.
Recognizing that the ability to speak confidently and comfortably is a critical Meet-the-Moment skill, FCDS begins the public speaking program in Kindergarten with poetry recitations. While we provide ample opportunities for boys to speak in front of large groups, we also know that public speaking skills are used all around campus.

Whether giving a pep talk to teammates on the field, delivering a game report, or announcing community service projects, FCDS students learn to think clearly, organize their thoughts, and speak confidently--skills that will be profoundly important in their academic and professional careers.
